I don't think you're overthinking things; this genre of videos, because, yes, there's enough to warrant calling them that, is no different than the "Day in the Life of a Tech Worker" videos that skyrocketed in popularity shortly before and during the Pandemic years, where upper middle class white women in these positions flaunted just how much they didn't work, how much they got paid to not work, and it felt as if they were rubbing everyone's face in it. Personally I think gender, age, and race are largely irrelevant - I believe Millennials and Gen Z white women seem over-represented in this media because A) that demographic uses this type of social media the most and B) videos of young white women tend to do very well in the short-form video platform algorithm, but I've met people of all ages, races, and genders who act like this. But it is disgusting behavior, regardless of who is doing it. Reminds me of the middle manager I once had who fired me because, and I'm not kidding, I "didn't smile enough", "didn't engage with the team enough", and "made people feel uncomfortable". By which I mean I kept to myself and did my work because, frankly, I thought that's what I was there to do, not waste time yapping with my coworkers about their "fur babies".
Also, nice WH40k tie ins. Never read the Greta Vern story but I feel like I have to now.
Thank you for reading! Hundred percent, I plan on writing about male flight soon, and one of the things that I realized is how much it correlates to the swifties taking over a different domain
I fucking hate these people too. I once lost a job because I upset a fat middle-aged woman. A bullshit complaint came through right at the start of COVID and she overheard me describe it as such, in less severe language. The conpany was hideously under-staffed but never mind, she was apparently answerable to no-one.
People with the least actual capability are the *worst* when given even the smallest modicum of power. It's getting increasingly hard for me to not see this each and every day.
You're not overthinking things. The exact same women doing the exact same song and dance *on their own time in one of their homes or at a bar* would have received far less notice, and almost definitely wouldn't get brought back up a year later. The absolute core problem is doing this in the workplace essentially confirms what many people think about the jobs these particular women work. Any benefit of the doubt instantly evaporates.
Maybe your sense that college-educated women are responsible for all problems in society is baseless misogyny?
And the fact that you can find people more misogynistic than you on this subject does not excuse you bringing complete lack of facts or data to this. Please check to see if what you say is true before saying it!
Some facts:
- Men occupy just as many white collar jobs.
- Men are disproportionately hold decision-making power in white collar jobs.
- Lots of white collars jobs are not bullshit.
- Bullshit white collar jobs are not responsible for harm specific targeted towards men.
- These young women doing a tiktok do not have much power in society, and anyway are working for the marketing division of an Australian skincare company.
- They are having fun, have you heard of fun? Not everyone having fun is a sociopath dancing on the burning corpse of society.
- Warhammer lore is about the least authoritative cultural or philosophical source I can think of.
I have seen that alpha male bootcamp clip so many times and it never fails to make me feel incredible cringe. But yeah 40k allegories are based. People have already said that Slaanesh is basically the wokesters, Hollywood and politicians. But I think an exploration of chaos and entropy would be interesting, especially considering that many of the Primarchs began to feel resentful towards the Council of Terra which was made to manage the systems won through conquests of the Great Crusade. They were human bureaucrats, not the superhuman Astartes.
Fills me with despair. I can write, I can clean, I can teach, I can draw, I can recite 2000 years of history from memory and can even drive, and drywall and chop wood and can do all sorts of other things. But I'm basically cast out of polite society, while these idiots have taken over society.
It really is true that we're seeing a 'retardification' of society.
A single look at any number of fantasy serials I help promote on this site, or at my fantasy serials will tell you all you need to know about me. I do know how to write, and can do it more than passably. And yet these girls who ought to be pregnant or in secretary positions are controlling access, jobs and resources within corporations. It truly is cause for despair and black pills.
None of the skills you have listed are impressive at all. They are all basic adult skills. Except for reciting history, but that is a useless skill (Wikipedia exists).
Learn a specialized and economically valuable skill and stop whining. Otherwise you are no better than the women with bullshit jobs that you complain about.
They are just begging for attention because their mothers were too busy trying to tie down their newest alcoholic boyfriend of the week every single week while her progeny were forced to fend for themselves and subsist in a diet of junk food.
You vastly overestimate what modern "adults" are capable of. While, correct, for many of us these skills don't sound overly impressive, not a day goes by I'm reminded *starkly* how little modern young adults actually know how to do. I have a story I told elsewhere on this site about my then 15-year-old son changing a tire for a mid-twenties married couple. They were completely amazed he knew how to do this. I was amazed the man of the pair did not.
For all its faults, sometimes I think the Hunger Games with it's vision of a central elite being sustained by real workers was onto something more than the author intended.
They will be in for a rude awakening when they realize commands can only go so far.
Yeah I don't see it either, and I doubt it exists in most companies. It doesn't really make sense that private companies (where the owners, board, CEO and actual decision makers are almost all men) would keep on people doing jobs that aren't necessary or bringing in value.
My guess is that this meme/line of thought comes specifically out of the software engineering/dev world, where the coders and engineers are almost all men, and the people in the people-skills positions are almost all women, so there's some gendered perception even though the eternal emnity between sales/marketing people and the people responsible for deliverables has always existed and will never be resolved. People who produce the actual deliverables for the customer will ALWAYS see the marketing and sales people as full of shit and being paid to have lunch and talk on the phone and gladhand and give each other compliments at unnecessary meetings. And the sales/marketing people will always consider themselves the fundamental engine that brings in the customers without which there would be nothing to sell them in the first place.
There are plenty of industries where the sales/marketing jobs are mostly male, and the production teams have contempt and hatred for them just as much...they're considered useless schmoozers. In my field, these are investment bankers and brokers...almost all male, and we all hate them and think they're horrifically overpaid because they do literally nothing but make introductions and schmooze and bullshit, and get paid millions for the privilege as commission, while everyone else does the "real" work. But fundamentally, if you don't bring in the clients, there's no revenue and no company. Even if those people couldn't sit down and do a day of "real" work doing more than socializing if it killed them.
The girls in this video we're responsible for marketing beauty products to women on Tik Tok and getting the brand name out there in viral clips, and considering that was their job description, it seems they did a good job. I'm sure whoever is developing the skin products in a lab or producing them in a factory think their jobs are BS too, but without the customer attention and sales, they'd all be out of a job. My take is that a lot of this is just everyone overvaluing their own form of work as more real and more important, and other's as less so, even though all the pieces and skills are mostly necessary even if distasteful in contrast...otherwise there's no reason the owners of the company would keep any of them on.
It's all that, compounded with a decade+ of DEI initiatives causing roles like "Chief Diversity Officer" to pop up in large companies. Blowback against its primary beneficiaries requires an effigy to burn and these ladies happened to be there at the right time. They got bonuses for the exposure, no doubt.
Hell is you trying to get something done at the DMV, the line never moves, and all the employees are doing this in the back room, with glass walls so everyone can see it. Gen Z boss in a mini! Gen Z boss in a mini!
Satan never could come up with more effective torture.
Annoyance, displeasure, even profane criticism of women is not "thorough-going hatred of women in the way we only used to talk about psycho-sexual serial killers."
Agreed, like all the other "Labels of Power" it's meaningless anymore. I watched the aforementioned Sargon of Akkad video. My comment was somethign like:
"We want equal pay and respect to the engineers and producers at this company!"
David Graeber put it best when he described many, if not most, jobs in the corporate world. Instead of hiring a skilled worker to fix a hole in the roof, a bucket is put down under the hole, then someone is hired to empty the bucket every hour. Also, I've never had a male boss once in my life, and I've been working for 10 years. So all the "It's so hard for women to advance in the male dominated corporate hierarchy" stuff just never resonated with me, because it's completely contrary to my first-hand experience.
Before the seventies male bosses focussed on the job not people's feelings. The feminisation of work has reduced real productivity- it's all endless meetings etc etc
The "competence crisis" (if any) in wildland firefighting is because they have too few female boots on the ground, not too many, and we have to overcome a huge macho culture. When one is isolated in certain internet and tech worlds, I can definitely see how this phenomenon would be so frustrating, and I completely agree it's cringe. But poke your head up and there are plenty of Gen Z/millenial women getting actual shit done, including in blue collar spaces.
Also, can't use ocean water to fight wildfire! Enjoy your desk.
How do you get that water onto a fire without running it through hoses, trucks, aircraft? Saltwater is corrosive to all that equipment. Firefighters have a limited amount of equipment and they have to be able to run it for at least 2 weeks while they are assigned to an incident. Even if everyone said "fuck it" and started pumping saltwater, they would very quickly run out of usable hose or damage equipment they need in order to keep fighting.
"Keep fighting? Just put it out!" Well, a match is a very small, light piece of wood. It can be extinguished in a split second by a droplet. Houses, trees, cars can burn for hundreds or thousands of hours before being consumed, and need to be extinguished by lots of water under lots of pressure because embers are buried deep within. So running down to the beach with buckets isn't going to cut it. Meanwhile hurricane-force gusts of wind carry embers into house after house, tree after tree, hundreds of yards away.
I'm not sure if your comment comes from genuine curiosity or from snarkiness. But fire is the only natural disaster we, as humans, try to fight with boots on the ground. LA was a massive incident, and many smart and capable people are paid to handle the logistics and do what they can to fight disaster. None of those people "overlooked" the ocean as a water source. It's ok to not know why, because firefighters have experience you don't have. But so many people online think that they know better. They ask the impossible of first responders, and then tweet angrily from their couches about it. And that's not okay, because competent firefighters put their lives on the line every fire season, and every fire season there's some that don't come home.
Male flight will change world. Is changing the world.
Is that why UX has degraded over the last 20 years? So glad I tuned in and dropped out

Simping? There's just nothing threatening about a handful of women making a tiktok video in Australia?
I like how most of your facts are just opinions on how you think things are. I hope they see this, bro
But then we had to sing that Frank Zappa's classic.

Precisely
How dare the livestock have a well-paying job!

Fair point
I work as a technology auditor for a large clinical research organization aka big pharma.
I see none of this nonsense. The women I work with are serious, educated, intelligent, and hard working.
Maybe it’s a function of the job. Pharma has thousands of regulations to follow, from all over the world (“Annex 11”, “21
CFR 11”, “Good Clinical Practice”.) A violation of any can lead to huge fines, prison, or worst - losing money.
You can’t be an idiot and dance around singing a girlboss tune and keep up.
Big Pharma is mostly evil, and when you get to the realm of sales reps and product managers, you run into a wall of stupid.
But when they screw up, there are often dead bodies, and that somewhat limits the level of stupid that can be tolerated.

Remember the dancing doctors and nurses during Covid-19?
You desperately need some real problems in life if this is your idea of hell or Satan or whatever. Get a grip.
Do you think makeup companies don’t need marketing personnel?
Or do you think that they do need marketing personnel but that you could do that work as effectively as these people?
Or…do you just resent people who make good money and look to be enjoying their jobs more than you do?
I agree that this video is cringe, but that’s just an aesthetic judgement, and it’s no more cringe than a Substack guy writing about warhammer.
Anyone using “misogyny” has v little credibility.
Sargon of Akkad has a video with a better take.
No, not "misogyny."

I once did tech support. On the lowest level of it. Back in my twenties. Several of those co-workers went on to move up, get more skills, etc.
I left the field entirely and went into skilled trades. Why? Girl bosses. HR. Office politics games which I was in a disadvantage with.
By moving into a field that is 95% male, I have avoided the whole thing. Yes it is much harder on my body, but I wouldn’t trade it.
Before the seventies male bosses focussed on the job not people's feelings. The feminisation of work has reduced real productivity- it's all endless meetings etc etc

Why can’t you use ocean water? Last time I checked you can put out a match by dropping it into the ocean.
How do you get that water onto a fire without running it through hoses, trucks, aircraft? Saltwater is corrosive to all that equipment. All of the umbrage was pointed at CA's lack of water reservoirs as a means to save some species of fish.
I notice the perfunctory addition of “white women” to all critique in the exact same way it has been used about “white men”.
